About Brighton Water Shoes

I love Brighton Beach. It’s a wonderful place to be.

The sea, the skyline, the colourful beach huts and the buzz of the promenade make it a wonderful place to spend time. But anyone who has tried to walk into the sea here will know one thing; those pebbles can be brutal.

Walking barefoot across a pebble beach is uncomfortable enough, but getting in and out of the water while waves are rolling in can be even harder. I realised very quickly that the solution was water shoes.

The problem was finding the right pair.

Many water shoes had thick soles that felt heavy and awkward when swimming. Others had very little grip, which I especially noticed when paddleboarding. And most designs were uninspiring – often plain dull colours or covered in strange patterns. So I decided to create my own…

Brighton Water Shoes were designed to solve these problems while celebrating the colours and spirit of Brighton itself. Our shoes are lightweight, flexible and comfortable, with a grippy rubber sole that protects your feet from pebbles and rocky surfaces while still allowing you to move naturally in the water.

They are quick-draining, easy to slip on and off, and designed to feel just as good swimming in the sea as they do walking along the beach. Each pair comes with a breathable mesh storage bag, perfect for keeping your shoes together when wet or dry. The breathable fabric allows the shoes to continue drying even when they are packed away after a swim.

Our colour palette is inspired directly by Brighton Beach and the seaside atmosphere — including lifebuoy orange, sunburst yellow, horizon blue, palace pier pink, lifeguard red, sea green, carousel gold, black rock, salty afterglow lilac and coastal patina olive. Mainly bright, and always joyful, colours that make you smile when you look down at your feet.

As Brighton Water Shoes has grown, we’ve expanded the range to include a small collection of beach essentials designed with the same seaside lifestyle in mind.

Our extra-large microfibre towels are lightweight, quick-drying and perfect for the beach or swimming. Our stainless steel spill-proof beach cups keep drinks hot or cold while you relax by the sea.
